Fixed Installation Testing
All Fixed Installation testing is carried out in accordance with
Institute of Electrical Engineers 17th Edition, Wiring Regulations
(BS7671) Guidance Note 3. All our Fixed Installation Test engineers are
NAPIT accredited.
What Is Fixed Installation Testing?
This is also referred to as "Hard Wire Testing" or as a "Periodic
Inspection" Essentially it is the testing of the electrical systems and
services that conduct electricity around the building hence the term
"Hard Wire Testing"
How Often Should This Testing Be Done?
For most commercial and educational establishments the recommended time
frame between tests is 5 years. There are exceptions to this for example
places of public entertainment and licensed premises as well as
industrial premises. Please contact us if you are unsure of the
frequency of inspection for your installation.
Do I have To Have My Installation Tested?
Generally the answer to this is yes. Not only is it a recommendation
under the 16th Edition Wiring regulations, it is also a recommendation
from the Health & Safety Executive and more commonly Insurance Companies
are requesting this is carried out. It could affect your Insurance cover
and may increase premiums if testing is not carried out.
Method Statement/Test Procedure
The Sure Test Electrical engineer will report to the client
representative on arrival.
The electrical installation shall be tested and inspected (subject to
certain limitations) in accordance with the following regulations and
publications:
|
The current edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations for Electrical
Installations; BS7671: 2001 including Guidance Note 3 (Inspection &
Testing). |
|
The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989. |
|
The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974. |
The Periodic Inspection and Report (PIR) and its associated schedules of
circuits and test results will be produced using NAPIT endorsed computer
software. The document will be accompanied by a detailed summary report,
which will contain a comprehensive list of observations and
recommendations for remedial works along with budget costs and
photographic evidence where deemed necessary by the inspecting engineer
Insulation resistance testing may be limited between phase and neutral
at distribution boards to minimise any possible adverse affect to
sensitive equipment known or otherwise.
Light fittings (including external fittings), accessories (including
FCU’s & fixed equipment) above a height of 3.5 metres to be visually
inspected only. Earth loop impedance values for these circuits will be
obtained from the nearest practical and relevant source.
Separate earth loop values will not be measured for alternative/back up
sources such as generator supplies and UPS supplies.
Boiler Room/Plant Room equipment will not be tested other than for earth
continuity although it will be visually inspected as far as it
practical.
All test and inspection engineers are fully qualified and experienced;
copies of relevant qualifications are available on request. All test
equipment used is fully calibrated and again these certificates can be
produced on request. |
